Each time someone comes to us for assistance at our dual diagnosis treatment centers in Georgia, we begin by performing an in-depth analysis. We evaluate the status of their addiction and mental health. This allows us to determine their needs and create treatment goals. From there, a schedule for types of treatment sessions can be created that meets their specific needs. 

We offer outpatient programs that require attendance during the day. This allows people to avoid moving into a residential facility while still getting the quality, focused care that makes a difference. The levels of outpatient care we provide include outpatient rehab, an intensive outpatient program, and a partial hospitalization program. Attendance ranges from a couple of days to several days a week, depending on the needs of the individual.

While developing a dual diagnosis can happen to anyone, certain risk factors can increase a person’s chances of having one. Genetics often contribute to a person developing a mental illness or an addiction to drugs or alcohol. This means having family members with either condition increases the chances that someone else will deal with the same disease. 

Having experienced trauma can also put a person at risk of developing a dual diagnosis. As well, living under stressful circumstances can cause a person to develop poor mental health and turn to drugs or alcohol to cope. Dual diagnosis creates a cycle in which the addiction makes the mental health disorder worse. Conversely, as a person’s mental health declines, they often feel a stronger need to abuse substances.
